In August, the voters of Tacoma overwhelmingly supported a $320 million roads package.  The package is supported by an increase in utility taxes and property taxes.  AGC BUILD PAC and local contractors supported the measure.

CWAs/PLAs in the City of Tacoma and Pierce County

One proposal in the City of Tacoma puts Community Workforce Agreements/Project Labor Agreements (CWAs/PLAs) on all projects over $5 million.  The City is currently monitoring 100 projects and the $5 million trigger for a CWA/PLA would touch 15 projects to give you an idea on scope.  A second proposal would start off with a pilot project so the City can gain data before they potentially plunge into the CWA/PLA business.  Pierce County is moving forward with a CWA/PLA pilot project reviewing data on three projects.  Project sizes were $20 million, $12 million and $5 million for the County’s pilot project.  AGC, a large coalition of other contractor trade associations and local AGC contractors (women and minority-owned firms have been well-represented) have been fighting these proposals for months.  AGC has had a focus on fair and open competition for decades.  If you would like to contact City and County policymakers on this topic, please email Tim Attebery at tattebery@agcwa.com and we can put you in touch with the appropriate people.  Information and background on the process at the City of Tacoma can be found here.  CM Diaz CWA Memo.pdf
