AGC talks BUILD America 250 Act with Reps. Larsen and Strickland
(From AGC of WA) For the past five years, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) has helped fund highway preservation, bridge improvements, fish passage projects, freight corridors, safety improvements and local transportation investments in Washington State Now, with the IIJA set to expire on September 30, 2026, Congress is considering its successor: the BUILD America 250 Act, a bipartisan five-year transportation authorization that would invest approximately $580 billion in highways,
bridges, freight, transit, passenger rail and transportation safety through 2031. Last week, AGC staff and members met with Congressman Rick Larsen and Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland and discussed BUILD America 250, among other topics. Rep. Larsen toured two jobsites in Whatcom County, one hosted by Granite and one by IMCO (see pics). “You can’t have a big-league economy with little-league infrastructure,” Larsen said about the legislation. “The BUILD America 250 Act makes key investments in the nation’s transportation—from restoring aging bridges and repairing crumbling roads to building out safe, accessible transit and bike infrastructure.” READ MORE…

IRS Issues Updated Guidance on Overtime Tax Deduction

Revenue Service (IRS) has released updated Fact Sheets on the new deduction for qualified overtime compensation, providing additional clarity for employees and employers on eligibility, reporting, and withholding requirements. The guidance expands on the deduction created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and clarifies that only the overtime premium required under the Fair Labor Standards Act qualifies for the deduction. The update also includes new
information on Form W-2 reporting requirements, withholding procedures, and the requirement that qualified overtime compensation be separately reported for workers to claim the deduction. The updated information is available in Fact Sheet FS-2026-13 and revised FS-2026-01. Construction employers should review the guidance with payroll providers and tax advisors to ensure proper reporting of qualifying overtime compensation. New prevailing wage rates effective

The following information is from the Department of Labor and Industries:
The Prevailing Wage Program published updated wage rates on Aug. 3, 2026. The new wage rates become effective 30 days from then, on September 2. This is our standard, twice per year publication in which multiple wage rates are updated across all Washington State counties.
You may look up or print prevailing wage rates for journey level or apprentice workers by visiting the following web page. To view the new rates, be sure to enter an effective date that is on or after 9/2/2026.

New construction robots gain traction on jobsites
(From Construction Dive) For years, small, adaptable machines that perform repetitive jobsite tasks have seen the most success. As technology advances, that calculus is beginning to change. Robots are gaining steam in the construction industry, with two announcements this week highlighting the demand for these solutions on jobsites. On Monday, global investment behemoth SoftBank threw its weight behind Gravis Robotics in a $200
million Series A funding round. That same day, Bedrock Robotics, founded by alumni from robotaxi firm Waymo, announced its machines were doing work on real jobsites for established contractors, including Sundt Construction and Zachry Construction. READ MORE
