Dear AGC members --
I and the rest of the Construction Roundtable talked to the Governor's office today regarding the latest information on construction and COVID-19. I want to first make clear that there is NO construction shut down contemplated at this time.
We had a frank discussion, however, regarding the uptick in COVID-19 cases in the state. While construction was showing relatively good numbers, there has been a recent increase in the number of cases among those who work in our industry, as in many other industries. This is of concern to the Governor as it is with all of us. The data is indicating an uptick among those in construction, but primarily due to non-jobsite activities, such as carpooling and social
gatherings. In addition, there have been instances reported of workers not wearing masks according to safety protocols. The Governor's office is encouraging -- and I am encouraging -- that we all redouble our efforts to ensure jobsite safety by abiding by all health and safety protocols, especially the wearing of masks. Plus, please communicate with your workers and encourage safe practices while not at work and the following of the recently updated restrictions. Information about these can be found on the Washington State Coronavirus Response website. Again, there is no imminent shut down of construction at this time, but we need to do all we can as the construction industry to "bend the curve" back down to ensure that we can continue to operate safely and uninterrupted.
As always, please don't hesitate contact me if you have any questions.
