Webinar: I-645 & Washington’s New Income Tax
AGC members are invited to join us Tuesday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. for a webinar featuring representatives from the Vote YES on I-645 campaign, the campaign working to repeal Washington’s new income tax.
During the 2026 legislative session, lawmakers approved a 9.9% income tax on income above $1 million, beginning January 1, 2028. AGC opposed the legislation, raising concerns about its potential impact on pass through construction businesses, working capital and Washington’s business climate.
Initiative 645 will give Washington voters the opportunity to decide whether to repeal the new income tax.
Join us to learn how the new tax, what it could mean for you and your business, and what a YES vote on I-645 would do.

AGC of Washington Leaders Take Construction Priorities to Capitol Hill
AGC of Washington officers recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in the AGC of America’s National and Chapter Leadership Conference (NCLC), joining construction industry leaders from across the country to discuss federal policies and priorities affecting contractors.
While in the nation’s capital, the AGC of Washington delegation met with members of Washington’s congressional staff to provide a firsthand perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the state’s construction industry.
The meetings provided an important opportunity to discuss federal issues that directly affect Washington contractors, including infrastructure investment and transportation funding and workforce development.
Our leaders also emphasized the significant role the construction industry plays in Washington’s economy and the importance of ensuring federal policies support continued investment in infrastructure and provide contractors with the workforce and certainly needed to successfully deliver projects.

Rep. Skyler Rude Resigning from Legislature — But Will Remain on November Ballot
State Rep. Skyler Rude, R-Walla Walla, has announced he will resign from the Washington State House effective October 31 to take a new position with the Secretary of State’s Office.
Rude, who has represented the 16th Legislative District since 2019, will become legislative director for Secretary of State Steve Hobbs beginning November 1.
The timing creates an unusual situation for voters. Rude is still on the November 3 general election ballot, where he is facing Democrat Derek Sarley. If Rude wins despite his resignation, the seat would be filled through Washington’s process for partisan legislative vacancies, with a Republican.
Rude has encouraged voters who want the seat to remain Republican to continue voting for him, which would allow the vacancy process to determine who represents the district in the next Legislature.
