AGC is seeking two volunteers to join the Local Government Affairs Committee; helping lead AGC's advocacy, political action and charitable donation efforts in AGC's Seattle District. The LGAC focus' on Seattle, King County, and surrounding jurisdictions; providing industry expertise on issues affecting construction, conducting AGC interviews for candidates running for office, and making recommendations for charitable donations that advance the mission and vision of AGC. On August 19, 2026, Mayor Wilson issued Executive Order 2026-4 to accelerate housing production by streamlining permitting and creating a Housing Production Task Force. The initiative is intended to support both affordable and market-rate housing while reducing delays that have slowed development across Seattle. The order responds to permit review timelines that have significantly exceeded city targets and directs departments to improve coordination and speed project delivery. For AGC members, the effort signals continued support for development and construction activity. Faster permitting and more predictable review processes could help reduce project delays, lower costs, and increase opportunities in Seattle's housing market. AGC will continue monitoring implementation of these reforms and advocating for efficient project delivery.

A petition seeking to recall Wilson, Mayor of Seattle, was withdrawn by its organizers on August 27, ending the effort before the courts could determine whether the allegations met Washington's legal standards for a recall election. Although the petitioners have indicated they may pursue a revised filing, any future effort would need to survive judicial review and collect approximately 70,000 valid signatures before reaching voters. Given Washington's high legal threshold for recalls and the withdrawal of the initial petition, the likelihood of a successful recall currently appears limited.

According to AGC of America, one of the most reliable leading indicators for future construction activity is the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Billings Index (ABI). The latest ABI reading was 47.3, below the growth threshold of 50, while the Western region registered 45.6 and the commercial/industrial sector measured 46.7. Because the ABI typically leads nonresidential construction spending by 9 to 12 months, these readings suggest continued softness in private commercial construction through much of 2027.

The latest AIA Consensus Construction Forecast frequently referenced by AGC of America's economic team as they continue to project modest growth in nonresidential construction. Institutional facilities, infrastructure projects, data centers, and other large-scale developments are expected to support construction activity despite softer architecture billings. Several factors point to continued stability in King County's nonresidential market. Bellevue maintains a robust pipeline of office and mixed-use developments, including the recently advancing Onni 606 project, while ongoing transportation, federal, and public infrastructure investments continue to support contractor demand throughout the region.
