Vaccine-Mandate Town Hall
replay now available

If you missed Sept. 30th's virtual Vaccine-Mandate Town Hall meeting (and many did, because our servers were overwhelmed!), we discussed the latest in vaccine mandates and heard from AGC staff in Labor, Government Affairs and Safety as well as from Amy Robinson from Miller Nash Graham& Dunn for the legal perspective. You can now hear the meeting in its entirety at your convenience here.
Make your voice heard
You should have received your ballot in the mail last week for the Nov. 2 general election. Local elections are important for your community and the construction industry. Click here to see which candidates AGC’s BUILD PAC has endorsed for Bellevue City Council, Port of Seattle, Seattle Mayor, Everett City Council, Whatcom County Council and more.
AGC of Washington has also taken a position to oppose all four of the City of Bellingham initiatives. Information on these ballot measure can be found by following the link above. If you have questions on any of these candidates or want to know how you can support them, contact your AGC district manager.

Act now -- WA Cares Fund (a.k.a. long-term care) exemption applications being accepted now
Washington State workers who hold existing long-term care insurance or purchase a new private policy before November 1, 2021, can apply for an exemption from the WA Cares program starting now.

Workers have until December 31, 2022, to file for an exemption but the state will start collecting premiums on January 1, 2022. If your exemption is approved after January 1, 2022, and you have already paid into the fund you will not receive a refund once your exemption is approved. Currently, once an exemption is approved, those individuals will be permanently excluded from WA Cares benefits, and they won’t be required to pay premiums.
Visit the WA Cares Fund website to learn about the benefit and what to expect. Your workers may look to you when they have questions about the WA Cares program, and we invite you to share our website as a resource.  You can also check out their Employer page for helpful program information relating to your business. You can also find more resources in our Employer Toolkit, including a multi-language flyer that can help workers understand the program.
Culture of CARE
Fall Forum, Oct. 28

Back to basics: resources and conversation to advance diversity & inclusion.
This fall, our Culture of CARE forum will get back to basics by answering the biggest questions: Why does AGC of Washington and AGC of America provide support for members who are striving to improve workforce diversity and inclusion culture in their firms? Why are there increasing numbers of construction firms making diversity & inclusion initiatives a part of their strategic-growth models? And beyond the why, we'll dive into what we offer in terms of supportive resources to help firms with their D & I journey, and how you can stay up-to-date with industry best practices as you grow your business.
No matter how long you’ve been involved with Culture of CARE, we encourage you to join us on Thursday, October 28 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This meeting will be held online via the Microsoft Teams platform. Register today…
Input welcome on state tax structure
The Tax Structure Work Group (TSWG) is a bipartisan group of legislators and other public officials are looking at ways to improve our state’s tax structure. This group is holding a series of virtual town halls meetings to hear from residents and business owners their thoughts on the current state tax structure and feedback on some of the ideas they are discussing. Click here to find town virtual hall meeting dates in your area. Click here to access the TSWG survey which they are also using to gather feedback on our state’s tax structure and the ideas being discussed. The TSWG will take the information and feedback they have gathered from their meetings, townhalls and the surveys to create legislation in 2022 that will be introduced in 2023.
Below are six ideas that the TSWG have been discussing. On their website they also have a tax calculator so you can see how each of the scenarios below would impact you or your business. Read more...
Nominations still open for AGC/WSDOT Partnering Excellence awards
Contractors for WSDOT projects are encouraged to nominate projects for the Partnership for Excellence in Contract Administration Awards, sponsored by AGC and WSDOT. Presented annually at the AGC-WSDOT Annual Meeting in January, these awards recognize and encourage extraordinary achievements by the contractor/WSDOT partnership responsible for delivering transportation projects in a timely, professional and responsive manner while also considering the needs of others affected by the project.
Each WSDOT project presents a unique set of challenges, requiring the contractor and WSDOT to work together to solve problems and identify potential issues before they happen. We want to recognize exceptional collaborative efforts made to deliver projects on time, while understanding the needs of the traveling public. There are various awards categories based on project size and geographic location. Read more...
