September is National Suicide-Prevention Month
According to the Centers for Disease Prevention, construction occupations have the highest rate of suicide, as well as the highest number of suicides across all occupational groups. To combat these statistics, contractors, unions, associations, industry service providers and project owners must work together to STAND Up for suicide prevention.
The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP) is raising awareness about the risk of suicide within the construction industry and providing suicide-prevention resources and tools to create a zero-suicide industry.
Please join AGC of Washington in spreading awareness of this critical issue and of the many resources available to help.

Employers can apply to offset some
UI benefit changes

The State Legislature set aside $25 million to assist employers facing higher unemployment insurance (UI) rates. The newly-created unemployment account -- which holds $25 million -- can help employers minimize future unemployment insurance rate increases. Employers who apply can use money from the account to offset of some of the UI benefit charges rather than having all of the charges hit the employer's experience rating. The application deadline is Sept.30. Visit this page from the Employment Security Department website for more information.
