ADVOCACY
Seattle, Bellevue and King County elections
Progressive extremists are challenging moderate common-sense candidates across King County, making for high stakes in our local Seattle District elections. To meet the threat, a number of independent committees have been formed to help elect more moderate candidates to the Seattle City Council, the Bellevue City Council and the King County Council.
AGC's BUILD PAC endorses all of these candidates and urges AGC members who are politically active to consider getting more involved. First, we encourage you to make a maximum contribution to the individual candidate committees. Second, consider contributing to the independent efforts which have been formed.
Contribute to candidate campaigns through the links below, and email Sonja Forster if you would like to become involved in any of the independent committees.
Seattle Mayor: Bruce Harrell for Seattle's Future (for Bruce Harrell)
Seattle City Council: Change Seattle (for Sara Nelson)
King County Council: Concerned Taxpayers of Washington (for Kathy Lambert)
Bellevue City Council: Coalition for a Better Bellevue (for Jared Nieuwenhuis)
Port of Seattle Pos 3: Stephanie Bowman
Port of Seattle Pos. 4: Peter Steinbrueck
Burien City Council Pos. 3: Jimmy Matta

Predictive scheduling could be headed to construction
Bellingham will soon vote on two initiatives which could make a dramatic impact on construction scheduling and compensation. Worker’s Rights: Fair Treatment of Hourly-Wage Employees and Gig Workers and Protect the Right to Organize include requirements such as the requirement to provide 14 days advance work schedules, and additional compensation for any changes made to advanced scheduling. We urge AGC members to follow the developments in Bellingham and get involved if you are concerned about the spread of such policy to the rest of the state.  Read more..
INDUSTRY NEWS
Nominations now open for AGC/WSDOT Partnering for Excellence in Contract Administration Awards
Contractors for WSDOT projects are encouraged to nominate projects for the Partnership for Excellence in Contract Administration Awards, sponsored by AGC and WSDOT. Presented annually at the AGC-WSDOT Annual Meeting in January, these awards recognize and encourage extraordinary achievements by the contractor/WSDOT partnership responsible for delivering transportation projects in a timely, professional and responsive manner while also considering the needs of others affected by the project.
Each one of WSDOT’s projects brings a unique set of challenges, requiring the contractor and WSDOT to work together to solve problems and identify potential issues before they happen. We want to recognize exceptional collaborative efforts made to deliver projects on time, while understanding the needs of the traveling public. There are various awards categories based on project size and geographic location.

A valid application package must include a completed nomination form with required photos must be received by WSDOT on or before October 18, 2021. Please share this information with others in your company that would be interested. Read more...
